Professionally, Kerry David is an award-winning filmmaker, but personally she is a lifelong advocate for animals and wildlife.
In 2015, after learning about the devastating effects that global poaching and human/wildlife conflicts have on animals and communities in Africa, she felt compelled to act.
"We’ve lost 68% of our wildlife in the last 50 years-due to humans. If we truly care about the future of animals, and our planet, then I feel we have to engage at any level we can, and help reverse this damage before it's too late.”
Kerry’s TEDx Talk recounts how she and her team chose to engage by traveling to Africa and Asia to find the women who were dedicating their lives to preventing this extinction. That journey, and the women (and wildlife!) she met, are now the subjects of her multiple award-winning film:
Breaking Their Silence: Women on the Front line of the Poaching War.
Starting Over and Above Africa was the first step in her life-long commitment to advocate for endangered species, and support the communities they impact. Every project that Over and Above Africa supports is filmed and shared with a global audience for awareness and to amplify the reach of each project.
“It’s imperative that we rethink our relationship to wildlife, our planet, and the need for a rich biodiversity - while there’s still time to do so.”
